History of Chugoku Marine Paints

1917

May:

Founded in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City under the name of China Chemical Industry Limited Partnership, and began manufacturing hull coating.

1923

May:

Reorganized as Chugoku Marine Paints, Ltd. with a capital of 250,000 yen. 

1949

Jul:

Listed on the Hiroshima Stock Exchange (merged with the Tokyo Stock Exchange in March 2000).

1961

Oct:

Listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

1962

Mar:

Established Shiga Factory in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture.

1973

Oct:

Established Chugoku Marine Paints (Hong Kong), Ltd. in Hong Kong as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1975

Mar:

Established Kyushu Factory in Kanzaki-gun, Saga Prefecture.

1980

Apr:

Established Chugoku Marine Paints (Singapore) Pte., Ltd. in Singapore as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1983

Mar:

Established Chugoku Paints (UK) Ltd. (formerly CAMREX CHUGOKU Ltd.) in the UK as a local consolidated subsidiary.
Established Chugoku Marine Paints (Taiwan), Ltd. in Taiwan as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1984

Sep:

Reassigned to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

1985

Oct:

Established Ohtake-Meishin Chemical Co., Ltd. (formerly Otake Chemical Co., Ltd.) as a consolidated subsidiary in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

1987

Aug:

Established consolidated subsidiaries Chugoku Paints Marine Sales Co., Ltd. (formerly Chugoku Marine Paints Sales Co., Ltd.) and
Chugoku Paints Industry & Sales Co., Ltd. (formerly Chugoku Paints Kanto Sales Co., Ltd.).

Oct:

Established Otake Factory in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

1988

Jan:

Acquired an equity stake in Chugoku Paints B.V. (formerly CAMREX HOLDINGS B.V.), a coating manufacturing company in the Netherlands, making it a consolidated subsidiary.

Oct:

Established P.T. Chugoku Paints Indonesia in Indonesia as a local consolidated subsidiary.
Established Chugoku Samhwa Paints, Ltd. in South Korea as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1989

Sep:

Established TOA-Chugoku Paints Co., Ltd. in Thailand as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1990

Jul:

Established Chugoku Paints (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia as a local consolidated subsidiary.

Oct:

Established CMP Coatings, Inc. (formerly CHUGOKU AMERICA HOLDINGS, Inc.) in the US as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1993

Jan:

Established Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd., in China (Shanghai) as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1994

Mar:

Established a research center in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Dec:

Acquired an equity stake in Kobe Paints, Ltd., making it a consolidated subsidiary.

1997

Oct:

Established Chugoku Marine Paints (Guangdong), Ltd., in China (Guangdong Province) as a local consolidated subsidiary.

1999

Nov:

Relocated the head office to Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

2002

Jan:

Absorbed consolidated subsidiaries Chugoku Paints Marine Sales Co., Ltd. and Chugoku Paints Industry & Sales Co., Ltd. through merger.

Sep:

Chugoku Samhwa Paints, Ltd., a local consolidated subsidiary in South Korea, established a new factory.

2006

Nov:

Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd., a local consolidated subsidiary in China (Shanghai), relocated and expanded its factory within the same district.

2007

Nov:

Relocated the Tokyo Head Office to Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda-ku.

2010

Mar:

Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd., a local consolidated subsidiary in China (Shanghai), established a second factory.

2011

May:

Established Chugoku Paints (India) Pvt. Ltd., in India (Mumbai) as a local consolidated subsidiary.

2012

Nov:

Acquired an equity stake in the Italian coating sales company CHUGOKU-BOAT ITALY S.p.A., making it a consolidated subsidiary.

2017

Mar:

Chugoku Paints B.V., a local consolidated subsidiary in the Netherlands, constructed a new factory.

May:

100th anniversary of founding.

2019

Jan:

Established Chugoku-TOA Paints (Myanmar), Ltd., in Myanmar as a local consolidated subsidiary.

2020

Aug:

Chugoku-TOA Paints (Myanmar), Ltd., a local consolidated subsidiary in Myanmar, established a new factory.

2022

Apr:

Transitioned from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange to the Prime Market due to the restructuring of the Tokyo Stock Exchange market segments.

2025

Mar:

Relocated the Tokyo Head Office to Toranomon, Minato-ku.
