1986 -

[Accelerating Overseas Expansion]

Having advanced our overseas expansion through exports, partnerships with foreign companies, and the establishment of overseas sales subsidiaries, we proceeded to proactively build an overseas production system.

1986

Launched fluororesin coating “FLUOREX”

Launched heat-resistant shop primer “CERABOND”

Launched underwater curable coating “PERMASTAR WE”

Application of PERMASTAR WE

The anti-corrosive coating “PERMASTAR WE” features easy underwater application without polluting seawater. It received numerous sample requests immediately upon its newspaper announcement and was well-received, with examples including 850 square meters applied by the end of that year. Later, we expanded our lineup of underwater curable coating products tailored to various substrates and environments, adding products such as “CONTECT WE” for concrete.

Began overseas production in Singapore

Singapore Factory (1986)

Our overseas production began in Singapore when equipment was installed in the warehouse of our subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Singapore) Pte., Ltd., to produce “AF SEAFLO Z100.” Subsequently, the Singapore facility was expanded in stages, and had largely taken its current form by 1991.

1988

Netherlands Factory began production

Established Otake Factory in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture

Established a local subsidiary, P.T. Chugoku Paints Indonesia in Indonesia

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Samhwa Paints, Ltd. in South Korea

Launched solvent-based copper-glass antifouling agent “BIOCRYSTY”

Launched coating for pleasure boats “SEAJET”

“Seajet” is a coating for pleasure boats that applies our expertise in large vessels to fiber-reinforced plastic, a material widely used for the hulls of yachts and other boats. Since then, we have built a comprehensive lineup to meet diverse needs up to the present day.

Completed Brazil Factory

Chugoku do Brasil Factory

To establish a base in the South American region, we founded Chugoku do Brasil S/A in Rio de Janeiro in 1987 and constructed a factory in 1988. (Dissolved in FY1999)

1989

Established TOA-Chugoku Paints Co., Ltd. in Thailand

Launched coating for bathroom renovations “BATH REFRESH”

Completed Indonesia Factory

Indonesia Factory (1989)

We had previously conducted sales in Indonesia through agencies, but to meet growing demand, we established P.T. Chugoku Paints Indonesia in 1988, completed construction of a factory there in 1989, and began manufacturing that same year.

1990

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Paints (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Paints Espana S.A. in Spain (Dissolved in FY1995)

US Factory began production

US Factory (1990)

In the US, we signed a technology transfer agreement for marine coating manufacturing with a coating manufacturer in New Orleans in 1987, and began local production at their factory. In 1989, this factory was acquired by Chugoku Marine Paints (USA), Inc. After renovating existing buildings and upgrading equipment, in-house production started in 1990.

1991

Established a local subsidiary, CMP Holdings PTELtd. in Singapore

Launched “THERMOTAC System”

Tempozan Bridge

“THERMOTAC” is a new coating system that enables coating on polyethylene, polypropylene, and synthetic rubber. This system, which involves applying a primer with “THERMOTAC,” irradiating it with far-infrared rays, and then applying the topcoat “THERMOTOP,” proved highly effective for coloring the polyethylene-coated wire of cable-stayed bridges, which were increasingly being built on a larger scale at the time.

The yacht “Nippon Challenge,” coated with our coatings, competes in the America’s Cup

Nippon Challenge

As an official supplier for “Nippon Challenge,” the first Japanese challenger in the 1991 America’s Cup, we provided yacht coatings utilizing the latest technology. We continued to participate as an official supplier for “Nippon Challenge” in 1995 and 2000, but their efforts ended with semifinal defeats in both years.

1992

Completed Malaysia Factory

Malaysia Factory (1992)

The Malaysia Factory was completed in Johor in 1992 as a dedicated facility for container coating. Notably, this site also featured a dedicated water-based coating factory, marking our company’s first endeavor of its kind.

Launched universal primer “BANNOH 200”

1993

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd. in China (Shanghai)

1994

Completed Research Center in Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture

Otake Research Center (1994)

Constructed within the Otake Factory to enhance and streamline our technical research division, the Otake Research Center focuses on developing environmentally friendly, high performance coating products, particularly marine coating, as well as coatings that contribute to labor-saving during coating application.

Completed Shanghai Factory

Shanghai Factory (1994)

To meet surging demand for coatings in China, a joint venture agreement was concluded with the Anting Industrial Company of Jiading County, Shanghai in 1992, leading to the establishment of the joint venture Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd. in 1993. The company’s factory was completed in 1994.

Completed Thailand Factory

Thailand Factory (1994)

In Thailand, TOA-Chugoku Paints Co., Ltd. had been leasing a factory from its joint venture partner for production since 1989, but began constructing a new factory in 1993, which was completed in September 1994.

Acquired an equity stake in Kobe Paint Co., Ltd., making it a consolidated subsidiary

Launched highly weatherproof inorganic-based coating “KEYSOL”

Launched hull exterior cleaning device “Cyclo-Clean”

The “Cyclo-Clean” cleaning device, used for hull bottoms, road safety barriers, civil engineering structures, and the like, achieved surface cleaning by rotating a disc equipped with high-pressure nozzles and specialized cleaning brushes. It not only increased efficiency but also contributed to improved cleaning quality, such as almost completely removing deteriorated parts of old coating films.

1995

Launched propeller coating “PELLERCLEAN SET Jr.” and “PELLERCLEAN SET Mini”

Launched hydrolysis antifoulings “SEA GRANDPRIX”

1996

Launched antifouling for fishing boats “NEW MARINE GOLD”

1997

Ohtake-Meishin Chemical Co., Ltd. was established

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Guangdong), Ltd. in China (Guangdong Province)

Established a local subsidiary, Chugoku Paints (Germany) G.m.b.H. in Germany

Developed marine coating system “CIS System”

Launched high solar reflective coating “THERMO SHADAN”

1999

Established a local subsidiary, CMP Atak Boya Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S. in Turkey

Completed Guangdong Factory

Guangdong Factory (2005)

To meet surging demand for coatings in China, Chugoku Marine Paints (Guangdong), Ltd. was established in 1997 to operate the Guangdong Factory. In 1999, the factory was completed in Shunde City, Guangdong Province, in the South China region where container manufacturers are concentrated.

Relocated the head office to Otake City, Hiroshima Prefecture

Began deliveries using the tank container system “IBC”

Developed marine coating system “CI T-21”
