SUSTAINABILITY

Occupational Health and Safety

Basic concept

As demands for safe operations increase for companies with chemical plants, providing a workplace environment where employees can work safely and with peace of mind becomes an inevitable challenge. CMP has established an action policy for workplace health and safety management. We will ensure the safety of our employees at all times, prioritizing the maintenance and promotion of health.

Management structure

We have established the Central Safety & Health Committee (composed of the chiefs (deputy chiefs) of each headquarters, managers of each business site, subsidiaries with factories, and labor union officers) as the overarching organization for the health and safety committees of each business unit to implement unified health and safety management across the CMP Group. The Central Safety & Health Committee holds a regular meeting once every two months to receive reports on new issues that have arisen at each business site and their countermeasures and status. In addition, the Committee monitors the implementation of measures at each business location to ensure compliance with the amendments to the Industrial Safety and Health Act.

Initiatives and track record

■ Consideration for the health and safety of employees

At each of our business locations, we work to improve the work environment through regular safety and health committee meetings, where we hold discussions with employees (labor unions). In addition to annual stress checks, we hold health seminars and take other measures to promote the physical and mental health of our employees. The results of these stress checks as well as work-related injuries and accidents are reported to the Board of Directors, which monitors the employee health and safety measures and takes action as necessary.

■ Health promotion

Health checkups and health guidance

To maintain and promote health, we conduct regular health checkups for all employees. We subsidize the cost for those eligible for comprehensive medical checkups. We encourage employees who are deemed to require a re-examination or detailed examination to undergo a medical examination at the Company’s expense to promote early detection and early treatment. We have also conducted interviews to provide “specific health guidance” to employees who have metabolic syndrome.

Mental health care

As a mental health measure, the CMP Group conducts annual stress checks. We detect employees with high levels of stress at an early stage and refer them to mental health counseling. We have also established a dedicated helpline where employees can consult with a counselor on mental health issues free of charge and without any disclosure to the Company.

Measures to prevent heatstroke

To prevent heatstroke, we discussed both tangible and intangible measures during the Central Safety & Health Committee meeting to identify more effective solutions. As part of our efforts to prevent heatstroke and create a more comfortable work environment in factories, we sprayed water on asphalt and roofs to lower surface temperatures and installed air circulation fans and spot coolers in work areas. To keep factory workers cool, we provided vests with ice packs, cooling jackets, and portable neck fans. We closely monitored the health of our workers, ensured the availability of oral rehydration solutions, and were attentive to maintaining proper hydration and salt levels. We have established a system that allows people to regularly move to cooler locations and take breaks.

■ Occupational injuries

Aiming for zero workplace accidents, the Central Safety & Health Committee conducts regular inspections of factories and laboratories within Group companies in Japan to drive continuous improvement in occupational health and safety. In fiscal 2024, the Committee inspected the Shiga office and the Kyushu Factory. We are strengthening safety measures to improve the work environment and ensure strict adherence to safe work practices, with the goal of creating a safe and comfortable workplace. We have created a database on our intranet that summarizes past cases of occupational accidents, trends in causes of occurrence, and countermeasures for each type of work, in an effort to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents. For workers with fewer years of experience and less proficiency, we provide safety education on how to handle chemical substances and points to keep in mind when working, while referring to past examples.
