Sustainability Management

Management structure

The Sustainability Committee was established in June 2022 to strengthen the CMP Group’s sustainability initiatives and develop a structure to systematically promote them from the perspective of increasing the Group’s corporate value over the medium to long term. The Committee is chaired by the President of the Company and is composed mainly of executive officers and chiefs of each headquarters. The Committee is responsible for formulating the Company’s policies, targets, and action plans for sustainability, promoting and monitoring initiatives on sustainability issues, and identifying material issues. Details are reported to the Board of Directors once a quarter, and the Board of Directors monitors the sustainability activities and KPIs. We have established specialized subcommittees under the Sustainability Committee for each theme to promote specific initiatives on various sustainability issues. Among them, activities related to the environment, safety, and hygiene are based on Coatings Care( * ) , and have been developed by responding to issues such as climate change and coexistence with nature.

Additionally, some of the CMP Group’s business sites have obtained international certifications related to the environment and occupational health and safety, and we are promoting standards-based on-site management. As of the end of FY2024, 58% of our global business sites, weighted by production volume, had acquired ISO 14001 certification, and 19% had acquired ISO 45001 certification.

What is Coatings Care?
Voluntary management activity, promoted by the Japan Paint Manufacturers Association and centered on the World Coatings Council (WCC), aimed at preserving the environment, safety, and health in all processes of the paint industry, from product development to manufacturing, logistics, use, and disposal of paint products. It is positioned as the paint industry’s version of Responsible Care, which is promoted internationally by the chemical industry led by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). In 2001, our Company declared that it would implement Coatings Care (a program for the environment, safety, and health), and has been promoting activities that are conscious of the environment, safety, and health.

Risk management

Risks related to sustainability are identified and assessed by the Sustainability Committee after being extracted by a department or subcommittee. The significance of each risk is determined by calculating an intrinsic risk score based on its potential impact and likelihood of occurrence. The Risk Management Committee, which includes outside directors, reviews response policies for high-significance risks, while the Sustainability Committee addresses medium- and low-significance risks.

The Risk Management Committee and the Sustainability Committee review the risk response policies and report to the Board of Directors at least once a year. In the process of implementing the risk response measures, the responsible headquarters or subcommittee promotes response measures, and the Risk Management Committee and the Sustainability Committee constantly monitor the status of the response.
