Industrial coatings
We offer industrial coatings for a wide range of applications, including construction materials, heavy-duty anticorrosion protection, containers, offshore wind power, and offshore development. These products build on the technical expertise we developed through our experience with marine coatings and have earned high levels of customer trust.
Supporting lives and industries while protecting the environment and safety
Founded in 1917 as a marine coatings manufacturer, we expanded into the wood coatings field in the 1950s before subsequently broadening our business to include heavy duty coatings, UV-curable coatings, and caulking materials for railway tracks. Today, our technologies are applied in a wide range of sectors, including social infrastructure, housing, logistics, and renewable energy.

Construction material coatings
We offer construction material coatings that enhance the comfort and safety of residential environments. With a particular focus on UV‑curable technology, we pursue product development that balances high performance with environmental considerations.
Characteristics
-
Primarily UV-curable coatings that set (dry) in short amounts of time through exposure to ultraviolet rays
-
Application delivers special functionality (slip and stain resistance, antiviral performance, etc.)
-
Top domestic share (approx. 42%) in UV-curable coatings for flooring materials

Main Product
AULEX Series
In the 1980s, we acquired exclusive manufacturing and sales rights in Japan for UV‑curable coatings. Subsequently, we began selling these coatings, which were in high demand in the United States. Ever since, we have maintained a core development principle focused on “people‑friendly products,” and we continue to undertake efforts aimed at reducing VOCs and formaldehyde—factors associated with sick building syndrome.

Heavy duty coatings
We supply heavy duty coatings that provide long-term protection for social infrastructure and industrial facilities. These coatings help maintain structural function and extend service life even under severe corrosive conditions.
Characteristics
-
Primarily coatings that protect structures such as equipment found in a variety of plants and bridges from rust and corrosion
-
Application imparts special properties (safety, long‑term durability, etc.)
-
Top domestic share (approx. 74%) in coatings for cooling
channels found in electrical power plants

Main Products
CONTECT WE / PERMASTAR WE Series
These anticorrosive coatings can be applied and cured underwater—a capability previously considered prohibitively difficult. Because they can be applied on wet surfaces or underwater, they are suitable for, and extend the service lives of, structures such as tunnel interiors prone to condensation, as well as bridge girders, bridge piers, and seawalls exposed to severe corrosive environments. By protecting structures from rust and corrosion and reducing long‑term losses, they also contribute to resource and energy conservation.
BIOCLEAN
This non‑toxic, environmentally friendly antifouling prevents the attachment of marine organisms. Using a silicone-based synthetic resin with low surface tension, it forms a smooth film similar to the skin of dolphins or eels, suppressing adhesion from shellfish and algae. As an environmentally friendly product that uses no heavy metals or biocides and does not pollute the ocean, it has been adopted in many facilities, including power plants in Japan and overseas.

Container coatings
Applying technologies developed through our involvement with marine coatings, we established proprietary container‑coating specifications. After expanding the business through an alliance with France’s Nitrolac in the 1970s, we opened a factory focused exclusively on container coatings in Malaysia during 1992. Primary manufacturing operations were later relocated to China, and our container coatings are still used by logistics companies around the world.

Market Overview
-
Broadly divided into dry containers (general cargo) and reefer containers (with refrigeration/freezing function)
-
Containers are available in two primary sizes, 20 ft and 40 ft, in accordance with ISO standards
-
Currently, container manufacturing is carried out almost entirely in China (approx. 95%)
Characteristics
-
Interior flooring materials (floorboards) require coatings certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
-
Since 2017, stricter environmental regulations in China have driven a shift from conventional solventborne coatings to waterborne coatings
Main Products
Low-odor coatings (FF Series)
The Fetid Free (FF) Series, the name of which means “free of foul odor,” is used for interior topcoats and floorboard coatings for container interiors. By removing irritating solvents such as xylene and toluene and further neutralizing odors, these coatings make interior odors milder and comply with FDA standards.

Waterborne coatings (EKOMATE Series)
We are also working to develop an all-waterborne coating system
that will not only further reduce odor but also contribute to reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Coatings for offshore wind power and offshore development projects
Combining the technologies of our marine and heavy duty coatings, we have expanded into the fields of offshore wind power generation and offshore structures. Projections indicate demand will grow as the renewable energy sector expands.
Characteristics
-
Share of over 80% of domestic proof-of-concept projects
-
We are conducting joint research with universities and research institutions both in Japan and abroad.
-
Given the government’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, we expect the adoption of offshore wind power to accelerate in Japan, leading to increased demand for coatings for wind power generation structures.
-
Our coatings are expected to reduce maintenance needs by enhancing the weather resistance of these structures.

Main Product
FLUOREX
FLUOREX is a fluororesin coating that provides long-term durability. Due to this superior durability, it has been adopted for a variety of structures with the aim of reducing life-cycle costs (LCC).

Mose Project
Our products were adopted for this project, which aims to establish movable storm surge barriers designed to protect Venice, Italy from flooding. Structures permanently submerged in seawater require advanced anticorrosion and antifouling performance and must also carry low environmental impact.
Characteristics
-
Mobile gates intended to protect the city of Venice, Italy from flooding.
-
Our antifouling coating "BIOCLEAN" was applied due to their strongly evaluated high performance.
