Management of Chemical Substances Contained in Products
Table of Contents
Basic concept
While the chemicals our Company uses are essential for enriching people’s lives, some of them can also have a negative impact on people and the environment. In order to use chemical substances safely, it is necessary to understand their properties and manage them appropriately. In addition to responding to domestic and international movements to strengthen the management of chemical substances and complying with laws and regulations related to hazardous substances, we are working to develop and improve products that present minimal health and safety risks and have a lower environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. We prioritize the reduction of hazardous or regulated substances at the product design and development stages, and are intensifying our efforts therefor.
Management structure
The Chemical Substances Management Subcommittee of the Sustainability Committee and the Technical Headquarters work together to develop and improve products with reduced environmental impact and to reduce the use of hazardous substances. In addition,
the Chemical Substances Management Subcommittee and the Environmental & Quality Assurance Department work together to promote initiatives based on laws and regulations in Japan and the overseas countries in which we operate.

Initiatives and track record
■ Management of chemical substances
We utilize a chemical substance management system to ensure the appropriate management of chemical substances. This system centrally manages information on chemical substances contained in raw materials and products, as well as acquired information on laws, regulations, and toxicity. We have also established a system that allows us to prepare and provide SDSs and other information to our customers. We are continuing to improve our systems to comply with laws and regulations related to chemical substances.

■ In-house training
We conduct in-house training to enhance understanding of laws and regulations, particularly when they are newly revised, and to communicate specific response measures. In fiscal 2024, we conducted training primarily for personnel responsible for chemical substance management, utilizing external seminars to enhance their knowledge and reaffirm the importance of chemical substance management.
■ Risk assessment of chemical substances
At business sites that handle chemical substances, we assess the risks of these substances in accordance with the Industrial Safety and Health Act. We have appointed chemical substance managers, and through the safety and health committee of each business location, we evaluate the risk of chemical substances using the CREATE-SIMPLE approach.
Additionally, we assess the hazards and toxicity of the chemicals in use and explore alternatives with lower risk levels.
■ Reduction of the use of hazardous substances
In an effort to reduce the environmental impact of its products, the CMP Group has voluntarily designated 10 substances that have high emissions or are highly hazardous, such as toluene and xylene, as target substances, and is working to reduce them on a priority basis.
